I am in support of Atlantic West Elementary School receiving the additional funding to ensure that the roof work is completed sufficiently and without further delay. I have had the privilege of visiting Atlantice west on several occasions to attend School Advisory meetings and see the condition of the school. The campus needs a complete facelift. They are still awaiting renovations of their media center, also located in building 1. The media center currently is open on two sides and provides no safety for students should there be a breach at the single point of entry which is less than 30 ft away. Their cafeteria which is also located in building 1- a straight shot from the single point of entry and has fire doors that cannot be locked- another safety issue. It was a disappointment to see the condition of the school, but the real reward was to see how passionate and caring the staff are, to witness the great leadership of Principal Reynolds and the warm interactions with students who are motivated to do well because of the nurturing staff. Approving the funding for the completion of this project will hopefully make way for the completion of the remaining construction projects the school desperately needs. Please do the right thing and vote in favor of these students having a safe and appealing place to learn.
