The two-day suspension for Hans Coleau, and five-day suspension for Louinel Simon are way overdue, the assaults were in October. This discipline is too lenient, and does not address the negative impact on the Student involved to see his attackers every day on HIS Campus. The consequence NEEDS to include a reassignment to a different School at the very least.
A more appropriate discipline would be dismissal. Staff should not assault Students, and the District should be sending a clear message that assault will not be tolerated.
These incidents were captured on HB149 Classroom Cameras. Broward County Public Schools NEEDS to voluntarily continue this program next year, if Student Safety is really a priority. Without these cameras this incident would have been staff’s word against the word of an ESE Student.
