For many years Debbie Hixon has been a champion for doing something about Climate Change and other environmental issues. This proclamation is another chance to show that the Board is unanimous in believing that elected officials have the power to strive for a better future for all creatures on this planet.

Thank you, Chair Hixon, for sponsoring this important resolution. By recognizing the Green Schools Campaign, you are joining other School Boards throughout the country who understand that action must be taken NOW to slow the acceleration of climate change, a lofty, yet achievable goal. By transitioning to 100% clean energy, the district will drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions, a critical step to meet necessary emissions targets.
By sponsoring the Youth Climate Summit, How Low Can You Go, and the P3 Eco Challenge, you have already shown exemplary leadership. Passing this Resolution underscores your role as environmental leaders in our state.
By partnering with the Broward Sierra Group Junior Team (an incredible group of intelligent, passionate young leaders), the Climate Reality Project, students, teachers, and other organizations and stakeholders, I have complete faith that we will be able to establish measurable goals and that we will achieve them.
