What Needs to Happen
So what can we do?
Stronger Collaboration with Local Government
Broward County Public Schools should work hand-in-hand with Broward County Government, cities, and municipalities. Together, we need to identify the most urgent needs for families and determine how local policies—such as zoning laws, development projects, and community investment can support affordability.
Affordable Housing for Educators and Families
Other communities across the nation are leading the way with innovative solutions. Some districts are building teacher housing on district-owned land. Others are partnering with developers to set aside affordable units specifically for educators and working families. Broward can and must explore similar partnerships.
Advocacy for Living Wages
Raising teacher salaries and advocating for livable wages across all professions is not optional—it’s essential. If teachers, firefighters, police officers, and nurses cannot afford to live in Broward, then the foundation of our community is at risk.
Engagement with the Business Community
We must bring in local businesses and chambers of commerce as partners. Thriving schools mean a thriving workforce. If enrollment continues to decline, employers will struggle to attract talent, because families will choose communities where education is stable and affordable.
