Broward School Board Members:
Re: School Board Meeting, June 17, 2025
Item B-3: Development of Sustainability & Resilient Building Standards & Design Specifications
Item B-4: Comprehensive Flood & Heat Vulnerability & Risk Assessment
Many thanks to the Green Schools Advisory Council for bringing forward the B-3 and B-4 items on Tuesday’s June 17 School Board agenda. We are grateful the School Board is taking up these proposals.
We wholeheartedly agree that both directives will be extremely beneficial to the school district and to our community. It is critical that we seriously address energy efficiency with an emphasis on clean energy as well as resilience to heat and flooding issues due to climate change.
By adopting these measures, the Broward school system will set an important example to the whole community of conserving our resources through energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy and will save money in the long run.
Protecting our assets from flood and heat are also critical and will provide cost savings. There will be a positive public health impact as well. A more comfortable and healthier environment for students and staff will be created.
These proposals align our school system with the County’s resiliency efforts and goals.
