I strong recommend the board to request utilization rates for any and all software that is currently implemented in our schools. Many schools/teachers were using Scholastic at the beginning of the 25-26 school year and their access was abruptly stopped forcing them to revise lesson plans- what was the cost savings? Which schools maintained access to and utilized Scholastic, how were these schools chosen, Please show FAST data from schools who did not use Scholastic as well. We should be scrutinizing every contract and any supplemental software for actual utilization- not just adoption, efficacy, and we should be including teacher feedback on all educational technology being utilized so that we are not spending money on tech that is not utilized, or appropriate training is not provided to teachers to implement with fidelity, or allowing time to actually teach and meet student needs. There should also be prioritization to focus on foundational academic skills, implement safeguards to prevent student from accessing inappropriate content, protect student privacy and provide explicit instruction to teach students how to utilize technology appropriately.
