I am writing to express my deep frustration with the proposal to increase school meal prices by an additional dollar for the upcoming school year. For many families, that is not a small adjustment, it is a significant and unnecessary burden, especially when the quality of the meals being served is already subpar. Enough is enough.

Instead of placing the financial strain on students and families, the district should be exploring alternative funding sources. There are countless community partners, local businesses, and philanthropic organizations willing to support food programs when asked. If we can find donors for technology, events, and nonessential initiatives, then we can certainly find donors to help ensure students receive nutritious, appealing meals without inflating costs.

It is time to prioritize what actually matters: feeding students well. Not expanding technology budgets. Not investing in things that look good on paper but do nothing to support a child’s basic needs. Food is not optional. It is not a luxury. It should not be treated as a revenue stream.

I urge the Board to reconsider this increase and redirect its efforts toward creative, community‑based solutions that do not punish families for the district’s budgeting choices. Students deserve better, and families deserve leadership that understands the difference between necessities and conveniences.
