My name is Dr. Trudy Jermanovich.

I hope you will pull the following Policies on Item 3 and revisit them at later time.

Policy Discussion for Instructional Materials Starts on -

    And the related policy -

Policy 2520 - appears to be a mix and match with a variety of SBBC past policies, NEOLA documents, and is very long and wordy. It includes much of what should be in a procedural manual which can be easily changed without the constraints of other policies. I’m especially concerned that this policy was not reviewed by a group of practitioners who are presently working as Library Media Specialists within the everyday school setting. I’m also concerned that the word “VIDEOS” is included in the list of materials which must be listed on the database for parents and others to peruse prior to use in a classroom. This is not something which has an easily formulated list as teachers often put videos in their classroom lesson plans as part of their professional judgement. These lesson plans are approved by the Principal or their designee but would NOT be on any kind of an approved list. For example, it may be a short video they found which explains buoyancy. The visual representation is better explained in a video than by direct instruction by a teacher speaking to a class in a lecture format. To limit videos to those on a list is taking away the ability of the teacher to devise interesting lessons for her or his specific classroom.

The way I read this policy, every video used in a classroom would have to be on a pre-approved list.

Policy 2521 again repeats many of the same things and actually uses the word PROCEDURES - in the policy.

Why is this section not put into the Policy Procedural Manual? I thought that this was one of the purposes to the changes which are being made to policies.
